What are solar pathway lights?

Solar pathway lights are just like conventional grid-powered pathway lights except they are powered by the sun. During the day, a solar panel charges an in-built lithium-ion battery which powers an LED light at night. Solar pathway lights are just as bright as conventional, grid-powered lights and comply with the same standards.

Solar Bollard Lighting

Bollards are an excellent way to provide discreet pathway lighting for passages, pathways, laneways, driveways, wayfinding and height restricted areas.

Solar bollards provide powerful, precise lighting with minimal glare. A solar engine including a separate solar panel and battery provides power and is typically mounted nearby on a pole or building.

Solar bollard lighting is frequently used in combination with our other outdoor pathway lighting systems including solar pole lights and puck lights integrated into handrails and street furniture.

As a guide, we can fully supply and install three compliant grid-free solar pathway lighting systems for about $12,500. Costs will vary however depending on application, installation size, access and design.

Solar pathway lights are a more affordable option compared to electricity grid-connected lighting with lower upfront & life-cycle costs.

Installation costs vary depending on application, installation size, access and design. As a general rule though, installation costs for our solar pathway lights are around a quarter of that for a similar grid-powered lighting system.

No electrical connections or underground cabling is required for Leadsun solar lights. This means they can be fully installed along a typical pathway in about 20% of the usual time required for a conventional grid-powered system. This means less cost to you and reduced disruption for pathway patrons.

Solar, LED and LiFePO4 battery technology have come a long way in recent years. Our SMART solar LED lighting systems use mature, proven technology that will match or outperform any other lighting solution on the market.

In Australia and New Zealand, all path lights including solar pathway lighting must comply with Australian and New Zealand Lighting Standards. We provide a complete, fully engineered solution for your pathway ensuring compliance with AS/NZS 1158.3.1:2020. All of our systems are designed to ensure at least 3 nights of continual lighting, even on cloudy days without needing any power from the electricity grid.

They are economical when compared with grid-connect streetlights, easier to install, sustainable with zero emissions from their operation, have no energy costs, are maintenance-free, Dark-sky compliant, and have optional wireless monitoring and control.

Our SMART solar LED street lights require minimal maintenance. The photovoltaic solar panels do not require washing or dusting and our systems can be monitored remotely with wireless SMART technology.

If servicing is required, our optional lowerable pole technology makes access easy with no cranes or special equipment needed.

Normally, a lithium-ion battery will last between five to eight years. However, with Leadsun’s patented, advanced technology we guarantee batteries will have at least 80% of their rated capacity after 10 years. In practice, actual battery life can extend well beyond this with typical battery life being around 15 years.
