After a very successful lighting upgrade at Knox Retirement Village, Australian retirement village owner and operator Levande approached Leadsun to design a lighting solution for a dark and potentially dangerous pedestrian laneway at The Lakes Estate retirement village.

A Dark and Uninviting Laneway

Located in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs, The Lakes Estate offers residents great amenities and easy access to nearby shopping, recreation and public transport options.

New street lights had recently been installed in the estate’s vehicle trafficked areas, however a dark pedestrian laneway located on the northern perimeter of the village was becoming a concern for residents as well as the estate’s management.

New pathway lighting was needed to make the area safer, encourage greater usage of this important thoroughfare and increase the appeal and occupancy rates of the adjacent units.

From Dark to Light With Leadsun Pathway Lighting

Leadsun worked closely with The Lakes Estate to design a high-quality pathway lighting system for the laneway. Four AE3 S55N solar path lights with 10W Cree type LEDs were mounted on EZYlift hinged folding poles so the lights could be lowered to the ground for safe and easy access during installation, cleaning and maintenance.

Each solar path light has its own on-board battery and operates independently from the electricity grid so no cabling or trenching was required in the laneway.

Programmable PIR sensors detect movement and automatically adapt lighting levels to extend battery life and reduce light pollution to adjacent properties. Levande also specified EDGE wireless monitoring and control for the laneway, allowing the system to be managed remotely for optimal performance.

Lighting the Way

The new solar pathway lights make the Lakes Estate safer and more secure for elderly residents and their visitors. They also deliverr an added benefit, increasing the appeal and occupancy rates of the adjacent residential units.

Leadsun Business Development Manager, Kieran McGrane noted that the new lights were also aligned with Stockland’s environmental and sustainability objects. “The new path lights represent great value for money with no on-going electricity costs and zero carbon emissions.” he said.
